Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

08 Sep 2025My friend and I walked from Bishops Lydeard to Wiveliscombe. This is a very enjoyable, uncomplicated route and I would highly recommend it. There is a mix of countryside and some great views.
This is the most direct route but there are a couple of minor alternatives.
1) Leaving Bishops Lydeard at the end of Station Road there is an an attractive option of not following the road to the left but continuing directly ahead over a stile to what was Middleton's Farm and then left to Ash Priors Common.
2) On the lane between Blake's farm and Coxland's rock you can take the FP to the left and come out opposite the FP on the original route.
3) Near to the end in Wiveliscombe you can continue where the recommended route turns left and walk up Golden Hill and Silver Street.

16 May 2022A very pleasant and easy to follow route. There is quite a bit of road walking with no pavements, but these are on quiet roads mostly. I walked from Bishops Lidyeard to Wiveliscombe and found no problems.

08 Oct 2021Scenic route and mostly well way marked and accurate. Agree with previous reviewer that although there are some stiles and gates, they could be negotiated by dogs but not by pushchairs or mobility scooters. At Ash Common it is possible to zigzag through the common to avoid so much walking on the road.
This route is well served for refreshments: Halse Community Cafe and The Bishop Lydeard Farm Shop. Toilets in Bishops Lydeard.

17 Jun 2021A lovely walk between the centre of the small town of Wiveliscombe and the Lethbridge Arms in the village of Bishops Lydeard. It crosses gentle hills and is mostly waymarked. Towards the end the walk is on a minor but relatively busy road. The views are great across the Somerset countryside. There are many stiles or kissing gates which are fine for dogs but the path is inaccessible for wheelchairs. The route on this website is accurate.
