Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

13 May 2024I completed this route yesterday travelling southwest from Broadway. It's worth every one of it's five stars rating. Stunning English countryside interspersed with quintessential Cotswold stone 'chocolate box' villages. One added benefit is that you can use the heritage Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway to use as transport to the start or from the end point, in fact on several occasions I caught sight of the steam train as the railway runs parallel with the walk.
There are lots of stiles, footbridges and gates en route. It hadn't rained for about 10 days prior to when I did the walk and was mostly dry except for some muddy sections through Broadway Coppice, and alongside the equestrian centre on the approach to Stanton village. Despite the undulating countryside, I didn't find any part particularly too steep and thus it was a joy to walk.
The villages are all gorgeous. I couldn't help at wonder how many millions of pounds of real estate you pass by in Buckland, Laverton, Stanton and Stanway. The route also passes by Stanway House (limited opening days in Summer) which hosts the biggest gravity fed fountain in the world, and the remains of Hailes Abbey, a scheduled monument managed by English Heritage and had lots of visitors when I walked past.
I spoke with a few people I met along the way, and was surprised to have met a couple from Canberra, and a separate couple from Dallas - both on walking holidays and enjoying the scenery. The route comes highly recommended, in fact you may well end up congratulating yourself on doing this walk.

17 Jul 2023Excellent route through countryside which is well signposted since it mostly follows the Cotswold Way, but makes short cuts to skip some of the crazy loops of the National Trail! The villages on the route are absolutely gorgeous and for me they typify the beauty of the Cotswolds much more than the touristy towns at each end. A stop in Stanton is definitely recommended - up the hill to the Mount Inn if you need refreshments!.

29 Mar 2022Beautiful route mostly following The Cotswold Way. Took us approx. 5hrs including a 30min stop at The Mount Inn, in Stanton for refreshments. A few steep inclines to deal with around Hailes & Buckland but nothing too difficult.

27 Sep 2021The route follows Winchcombe Way and Cotswold Way for much of the route. Both trails are regularly painted by the Cotswold Voluntary Wardens.
