Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

07 Aug 2023Nice route avoiding roads. Clear footpaths. A bit wet in parts but to be expected given the wet July.

22 Jun 2023 (edited 23 Jun 2023)This is a pleasant walk with a generally good path surface and some impressive views. I would make two minor changes to the route.
1. Instead of walking to the end of George Street in Whalley and passing the library, take the footpath to the left at the Spar car park to The Sands. This takes you past the abbey and through the gatehouse.
2. Take the first footpath on the right after passing under the A59 on Ridding Lane. This just allows you to walk one side of a triangle instead of two.
There are excellent shops, pubs, cafes and services at either end. The walk takes about 2 hours without stops. Some of the kissing gates are tight. Historical features of the walk include the 14th century abbey and grounds in Whalley and the 12th century castle in Clitheroe.
