20 Mar 2023I completed this walk yesterday walking northwards from Smethwick. It was the final part of a four-route circular walk that went out via Oldbury & Rowley Regis. No real concerns anywhere along this surfaced route. Galton Bridge is the highlight, and the walk alongside the tram line is pleasant enough. Apart from that, not much else to say other than the road crossings have pedestrian crossings installed.

22 Jul 2021I did this from Smethwick as an extension of the Birmingham - Smethwick walk. It is an excellent, short, safe, straightforward route meeting all of the Slow Ways criteria. It is varied, scenic, safe and accurately plotted. A really good walk.

22 Jul 2021I started this in Smethwick. This route is simple, safe and direct. Leaving Smethwick you cross the road by Galton Bridge Railway Station and then cross said bridge to cross Galton Valley. The views are superb! The next section follows a lane running parallel to the A4252. A short path brings you out by the traffic lights to cross Kenrick Way. In my excitement to go ahead and under the M5 I think I might have gone slightly wrong as I think I should have followed a ramp down to the south side of the metro track and follow that instead under the M5. I went through a different underpass but was easily able to pick up the route again. The next section follows a path through greenways as far as the meeting spot at West Brom Bus Station. This is an excellent Slow Way. Its directness, safety, ease of use and links to transport make it the epitome of Slow Ways. Full marks!.

11 Jun 2021A route that avoids the steep inclines to and out of the canals that are present on the original route on Slow Ways.
Just a 10m difference in altitude throughout, accessible to bikes, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Starts from across the road of Smethwick Rolfe Street train station, passes by Smethwick Galton Bridge trains station and by 3 metro (tramway) stations.
Surface is 95% tarmac, 5% is paved.
There is a 40m region that has a very narrow kerbed sidewalk - 55cm in width - where using the road surface might be required for mobility vehicles. The traffic is very low on that area therefore the risk is low.
Just 1 flight of stairs close to the West Bromwich end of the route, but a ramp for wheeled vehicles is nearby.
