Description
This route nearly matches the original Wemkil one, but has some changes:
- It reroutes around a building site (likely to be one for several years) near Kilburn Park
- It does not go through a set of shops (where it first meets the Grand Union Canal near the Kensal Green cemetery)
- It adds a few more GPX points, which makes navigation along the canal and in Queen's Park a lot easier following the route on a GPS watch

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

19 Nov 2024I walked from Wembley to Kilburn on a damp afternoon.
The initial 200m is a bit shoddy, but you soon enter quiet suburban streets and shortly after the lengthy canal side walk.
On this damp day I had the canal walk largely to myself with only the occasional cyclist or canal worker to greet.
Walking beside water is always a plus and it seemed quite strange to re-enter the busy world of London after such a quiet section.
Pleased I did this walk.

30 Mar 2024I did this as part of a circular route from Kingsbury via Brent Cross, Kilburn and Wembley, returning to Kingsbury. Public transport, cafes and shops are easily available. I downloaded the Slow Way GPX files to my OS app which worked very well. The route is well documented.
A fascinating insight into old and new Kilburn and Queens Park before getting on the canal which is always a pleasure. I would not walk the canal at night. Both entrance to and exit from the canal is by ramps and bridges with no stairs involved. The arrival to Wembley involves a long flight of stairs but these can easily be avoided.
This is a lovely route to explore this part of London and to enjoy the canal at the same time.

10 Feb 2022I walked this route from Kilburn to Wembley. The first part goes through Queen's Park, and is during the day a pleasant walk through a residential neighborhood. From there, it follows the Grand Union Canal for about 5 kilometres, and I enjoyed that part much — mostly because it was a cold and sunny day. From the canal it then goes through the residential Alperton and up to Wembley where the route finishes. This route is a near copy of Wemkil one, with the bits that didn't work fixed. Would definitely walk again!.
