19 Jun 2024I would have given this route more stars because it is direct, interesting (lots of variety and things to see: look at photos), easy to follow, accurately mapped and a lot of it is off-road (follows the Paddington spur of the Grand Union Canal, so no cars). HOWEVER the canal towpath is made difficult, and frankly dangerous, in places by speeding bicycles especially where the path is narrow. Maybe if you walked it at a quieter time of day (it was 6.30 pm) it would be less hazardous but the route is very desirable for commuters on bikes and there were a lot of them speeding along (many electric) so we couldn’t relax until we were off the canal and back on the roads. The last 30 minutes is tedious along pavements through soulless residential areas, but that is not a criticism of the route which is efficient and effective. You emerge on Wembley High Road and there are lots of opportunities for refreshment at that point.

05 Nov 2021I walked from Kilburn to Wembley. After Kilburn high street there are pleasant urban streets with good pavements. There is a small detour around a building site. Later at the end of sixth Avenue the route is shown going through shops to the canal, you can't do this. Turn right towards the church and left over the road bridge to access the canal (see the picture, arrow shows access).
The Grand Union canal, 60% of this walk, is lovely with birds and boats to see. Some steep bridges, otherwise a good flat tow path all the way. Benches all along the path and easy access to shops etc. just off the path. It is not lit after dark. Then a short residential street walk to Wembley. The route take you up a flight of stairs which can easily be walked around.
A lovely walk away from roads and cars.
