Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I completed this walk today travelling south from Wednesbury. It's a fairly good route which does its best to avoid the busy roads where possible. Although it's a relatively short route at just under 4 miles, there is a great little pub just 100m from the route I can recommend.

After leaving the busy Wednesbury behind, the route takes you through some industrial estates which you leave after turning off the Woden Road South. You then weave through some residential streets over the river Tame and Tame Valley canal.

You then cut across the Balls Hill park which was pretty boggy when we did the route. We have had a very wet winter though so if conditions are similar you may want to skirt around the park. About a third of the way into walk on Witton Lane, you can take a 100m diversion from the route to get to the excellent Three Horse Shoes pub for refreshments.

The route then heads uphill to Hill Top park which you cut through and go around before getting back into suburbia. The route eventually has to travel a short distance along Hill Top and then leaves the busy road once more, cutting through side streets, a recreation ground, under The Expressway and then finally down High Street into West Brom town.

Definitely recommend the route which is easy and safe enough.
