05 Mar 2024I walked this route yesterday travelling west from Stone Cross. It gets a (generous) four stars mainly because of it's directness. Not much to add to the already existing reviews which cover the route well.
The brief section in the open across the River Tame is a welcome break from suburbia, but the route really isn't that long. I would only choose to walk again if I had to or was in a hurry. To be honest, I'd be tempted to walk Wedsto two instead.

21 Jun 2023 (edited 23 Jun 2023)Walked from Stone Cross to Wednesbury. Direct and easy to follow, but not very exciting as all of it is on pavements apart from a short park section by the Tame.
From Stone Cross, we head west along Hall Green Road, then half right along Crankhall Road, which crosses high above the Tame Valley Canal. We turn left into Johnson Road, then straight on through the meadow by the river Tame on a paved path. Beyond the river we turn left (there is a paved path but most people take a shortcut across the grass) and follow Woden Road South to a junction where we turn right up Hyde Road then left up Chestnut Road, which points us in the right direction for the walk up to Wednesbury, where the meeting point is on the square outside the bus station.

25 Jan 2022A thoroughly likeable and relaxing walk. Starting from Stone Cross I followed along pavement of main road and then side street. A section crosses the River Tame in a park and then more residential streets until you get to Wednesbury. The route takes you through the Market Square (the clock tower was surrounded in scaffolding) and then down a busy commercial street to the site of the current market. Direct, safe, relaxing, easy to follow, with an Everard's Pub halfway and with some interesting sites at the Wednesbury end.
