A pleasant and well-signposted walk through the Fens. From Waterbeach to Wicken, it mostly runs along footpaths and very quiet roads, whilst the Wicken to Soham leg proceeds along an attractive network of green lanes / drove routes. There is a pub at Wicken and there are toilets and a tearoom at the National Trust's Wicken Fen visitor centre (just off the route). All in all, an enjoyable route, and one which I would recommend to others.

This is an attractive and very quiet route across the Fens. There are amenities at Wicken: a pub in the village, and a cafe, shop and toilets at the National Trust nature reserve.

There is a single stile, shortly after crossing the river on the way out of Waterbeach. The central portion of the route follows part of the Lodes Way cycle route (NC11) and is very clearly signposted towards Wicken, using very quiet roads and gravel cycle tracks. The section from Wicken to Soham mostly follows a lovely hedge-lined droveway. There are a couple of bridges (over the Cam at Waterbeach and over Burwell Lode at Wicken which have steps.

The landscape is what you'd expect from the area: very flat, and no stunning vistas. But there's lots of sky to look at, and a very interesting church at Soham. If you have time to detour through Wicken Fen Nature Reserve look out for rare bird species and lots of dragonflies.
