Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

25 Jun 2024This is a good route and goes off the beaten track to some degree. Parts of it may not appear very interesting when you are on an embankment in the midst of intensive agriculture. However, it does pass close enough to Wicken Fen for a detour and a visit to the café. The less trodden sections can be a little over grown and the path less distinct. When walking along the Cam, stay on the embankment and wear long trousers if you have them as the nettles are dense in places. Also, when entering or leaving Upware on the northside there is another short stretch of dense nettles. It is a pity the land owner or parish council has not been out with a strimmer as it is so close the village. Finally near Soham there is a footpath I couldn't find and a closed foot crossing over the railway, see map below.

08 May 2021Did this route in the pouring rain but it was still a lovely route up the river to Upware then past Wicken Fen on the way to Soham.
A public footpath sign/access was missing just outside of Soham, but carrying along the byway I was on and then a short trip up a minor road got me back on track.
It’s possible to avoid a couple of small road sections by going past the 5 miles from anywhere pub and following Back Lane in Wicken.
Several options for pub stops on the way in Upware and Wicken, plus presumably plenty of options in Soham.
