Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

24 Apr 2021There are two sections of this walk on roads which are dangerous for walkers and should not be attempted. The first stretch out of the village of Wark on the B6320 is not walkable and we would advise that no routes follow any section of this road. It is used by logging waggons, quarry traffic, locals, farm traffic, motorbikes and tourists. There are few verges or safe places for walkers.
The next section is on the road after crossing the B6318. This road down to Fourstones is again used by fast local vehicles and large farm and logging traffic. There are several blind rises and turns and not many places or verges to walk on. This section is doable with extreme caution although we would not recommend it.
We are looking at alternative routes but there is currently no direct route from the village of Wark to Hexham. However, we are close to the Pennine Way and Hadrians Wall Path which although longer, would be safer and more accessible than the proposed route. Alternative routes heading out towards the A68 could also be possible.
