Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Hiking Historian
24 May 2023Slightly amended from the original route to correct inaccuracies and odd route-finding.
From Walton (good transport links and many nearby shops), we cut under the flyover and soon enter Walton Hall Park. Good tarmacced paths lead us through the park, until we take a junction over a road where we then access the old railway, which is now mostly the Transpennine Trail.
It is mostly tarmac all the way, but there are a few places where wheelchairs cannot pass: there are a couple of very narrow barriers, and some subsidence in the path.
At Aintree Racecourse, the footpath becomes earth and stone in a wooded area, often narrow in places, before joining the canal. Along a grassy bank, before crossing the road at the bridge. Again, the route ahead is narrow in places, and wooded, but a pleasant canalside walk.
Just before the motoway bridge, there is a short steep drop, but we're soon under the bridge and accessing a tarmacced footpath through a pinch gap. Under the railway onto a field that runs alongside the motorway, then it is a few paved road walks until the end.
A pleasant green walk through parks, along the old railway and canal, but a few obstacles and terrain makes it foot-only.
