Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

02 Oct 2022I walked Walsall to Aldridge. The meeting place in Walsall looks fine on the map but on the ground neither the train or bus stations are apparent to a first time visitor. A few city back street, is Walsall a city? then into residential roads passing the impressive Spring Cottage under new management. A fenced path passes between open areas of Walsall Arboretum so a detour may be beneficial. More mixed residential before a short section of main roadside walk.
A big surprise, because I'd not studied the map. A stile, installed by a local Ramblers project. This leads to real fields and here I unexpectedly get muddy boots. I also found a fallen tree across the path so this has been reported to Walsall for removal. Crossing the canal was a real rural scene which all ends too soon passing through fields with horses, it's back to the road and houses.
Crossing the railway by a safe side footbridge and a road at a busy junction I spotted a Wetherspoons in the imposing old cinema and ahead a vibrant area of shops and bus stops, journey's end. But no, the plot continued, had I in error displayed the next Slow Way? I did make use of a bench by the church but see no benefit in this being the meeting place especially as the start of my next Slow Way retraced my steps through the shopping precinct.

16 Feb 2022This route is very similar to Walald one but modifies the route particularly in Aldridge to more include the town centre. This is a useful addition particularly if you have not visited Aldridge before. The grading will be the same as the original route.

02 Oct 2021I started from the official starting point but I think it might be more practical to start from the benches by the main bus stops in Aldridge which this route includes. From there it was a really pleasant stroll along the pavement west through the village. There is a section of countryside which is crossed by a series of well maintained and well marked footpaths. Special mention must be made of College Farm where signs advise not to feed the horses and where the footpath is. Very clear! Having crossed Riddian Bridge and passed through some woods, the path becomes slightly less clear but not enough to lose me. Crossing the Aldridge Road took some care as there is no crossing but was not too hard. From there to the Walsall meeting place is a combination of footpaths and pavement. A direct, and very easy section to follow with a particularly enjoyable part through Walsall Arboretum. A really enjoyable walk. Full marks!.

Thank you for reporting this issue to Walsall Council. I will visit the location to check what action is required and liaise with Clean and Green Services to arrange clearance as necessary.
