Description
This fixes the *very* vaguely drawn route line of WadRob 1, incorporates Victoria’s suggestion to avoid A-road verge walking (see WadRob 1’s review) and includes the chance of a mid route stop in Burwash which has a decent selection of places to eat or buy food and is on the 231 bus route, 6/d e/w.
WadRob 1 is just a rough outline that needs a good deal of interpretation plus a good map. This version has a similar level of detail to other Slow Ways routes. But there may be small inaccuracies where I had to draw bits by eye, many of the paths round here haven't yet been uploaded to the OSM base maps which normally help to keep things very tight. That would also make the interpretation of WadRob 1 very difficult if you were navigating using a Slow Ways website print out, or the Slow Ways app or any other nav. app or site based on OSM base maps, which are common!
The vagueness of WadRob 1 also makes it appear far too short. In reality it's only 500m shorter than this route, not 3km shorter as displayed!
ETA Think twice walking this after a wet month like Dec '24. I tried walking this recently (3 Jan '25). Very beautiful but beyond muddy all over, sometimes heavy frost was on my side but several fields were just saturated and torturous to cross, including a hillside! Local lady did say it was exceptional (met at bus stop, had to end early at Burwash, lovely pub though!)
Also beware 2 excessively heavy kissing gates near Wadhurst

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
