Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

24 May 2025May 2025. Direction: Tylorstown to Mountain Ash.
Another excellent cross valley walk, starting with the long and steep walk up the lane and then the Rocky Road. There are some great views up the Rhondda Fach valley and of "Old Smokey", the Tylorstown tip, now much reduced in height and landscaped (and no longer smoking). The only problem with the navigation was, although there is a right of way up the mountain from the Rocky Road, there is no path as such, so it`s a matter of yomping through the vegetation, which is quite dense in places. It would be easier walking to go a little further up the Rocky Road and turn left up a machine cut path on to the top of the ridge. After the hard work getting on to the ridge, it`s an easy stroll through the forestry and along the lane into Llanwonno, where the Brynffynnon Hotel provides a good half way resting point. The churchyard opposite is where Guto Nyth Bran, the famous Mountain Ash runner is laid to rest. There is then a stretch of about a mile on the mountain road, but it was fairly quiet on the day of my walk. After leaving the road, there is a lovely section across the Clydach Valley and then the rural mountain tops overlooking Mountain Ash, before the steep decent down into the final destination.
