An alternative route to Trupro One retaining the excellent section between Tresillian and Probus but avoiding the section of St Clement’s Hill between Penair Secondary School and the A390 in preference of the less direct Trennick Lane and Tresillian River section for safety reasons

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Having now walked a combination of all three Trupro options I believe this route provides the best combination of practicality and enjoyment. The section alongside the estuary is a particular highlight and affords many opportunities to observe wetland birds and take in the peaceful nature of the waterside setting. The vast majority of the route is off road with paths in good condition making it an enjoyable walking. It is slightly longer than the other two options and does involve more undulating terrain but the avoidance of traffic more than makes up for this. Public transport options in the way of buses at both ends and in Tresillian as well as shops means despite avoiding much road walking it does not lack for amenities.

I walked the Probus to Tresillian section of this walk on TruPro one, so some notes from my review of that Slow Way to start:

Probus is a charming village, and I soon found myself deep into the countryside, travelling through beautiful woodland west of Tregurno, before emerging in Tresillian, roughly half way through the slow way. Tresillian has some ammenities, and is a good place for a rest alongside the creek if required.

It is not clear that the long driveway to Lamellyn from Probus is a public right of way - signs seems to be absent. Do persevere though as the blue and yellow arrows of joy soon emerge.

After some pavement stomping through Tresillian the route peels off and follows the river. Taking a nice footpath through the reeds, you emerge onto a well trodden track which is flat and follows the water all the way to St. Clement. From there it is a mixture of quiet rights of way and roads all the way into the back of Truro. A few of the quiet lanes don't have pavements, but they still felt safe.

Overall this is my most preferred option for a route between Truro and Probus. Although slightly longer than the alternatives it is much safer and avoids a lot more main road walking.

This route is a fair route which is off road and direct. It is an unremarkable route but pleasant enough and not too challenging. I caught the bus from Truro to Probus from Truro bus station (number 50). There are other buses that you can catch as well which are included in my photos.

It begins at the bus stop in the middle of Probus village and weaves past the shops and cafes out of the village along the pavements although there were temporary roadworks at the time that I walked , there were careful bollards which made sure that pedestrians could still walk safely. Once out of the village I joined an off road path that had nice views over hills and was very quiet. The path ended and briefly crossed over a road which was an easy crossing with few cars.

The route then took me through various fields until coming down into Tresillian where I stopped at the Wheel Inn pub for a refreshing lime and soda and some too-expensive chips. The pub was mainly outside with a huge bbq and lots of picnic tables - it was a popular spot. A good find. It also has toilets outside alongside the pub so you could use them without having to buy anything.

After half a mile or so walking alongside the main road on pavements I crossed over the road and took a public footpath alongside the river for the next mile or so. I popped out in a small hamlet where there was public toilets and then carried on up the hill before taking another public footpath through some woods which finished up on the far side of Truro looking down into the city. A fine route, which I would happily do again.

* There was a part where the route tried to take me through the garden of Springfield , I just took the next turning into the woods which joined back up with the route.
