23 Feb 2023I undertook this route from Trowbridge, but the other way is all downhill. There are 28 stiles, 11 bridges, and 13 gates of various types. In the middle third are the villages of Steeple Ashton and Bulkington. There are pubs in both ( various opening times ), shop in S Ashton, and bus stops in both. There is also a pub in Poulshot. There was evidence of harvested maize near Bulkington, so perimeter field walking may be necessary. The roads are generally quiet, but two roads ( a ) just leaving Poulshot [ busy ], ( b ) Worton to Seend road [ v busy ] These are generally straight, have adjacent verges and total 0.30 mi. There are two viable alternatives to this route
( a ) Instead of taking the pavement from Trowbridge to Blackball Bridge, take route as shown on Trobra1 through Biss Meadow.......unless heavy traffic and fast cars are your thing
( b ) You can avoid fields with cows, and 5 stiles by taking quiet road and Towmead Byway between ST 922 579 and ST 932 581......it adds 0.11 mi overall.
