Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

09 Sep 2022 Summer

September 2022. Direction: Treorchy to Tonypandy.

The route was straight forward until leaving the Nant-y-Gwyddon Road just after Gelli, for the mountain path. It was signed clearly (Photo 3) and for the first 100 metres or so all was well, but the path then disappeared into the bracken. it was a wet day and after spending 3/4 hour trying to find a way through, I gave up and headed back to the Nant-y-Gwyddon Road (B4223) and headed towards Tonypandy. The path maybe much better to walk in winter and spring, but totally overgrown at this time of year, so I`ll flag it as a "maybe".

However, after about a half a mile detour along the road, there is an alternative path which goes through the Glyncornel Nature Reserve, a Woodland Trust site. It then goes on past the Glyncornel Environmental Centre and meets up with the original path just as it enters the village of Llwynypia.
