Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Mar 2022This is not an attractive walk but it is definitely the most efficient way to walk from Totton to Southampton and is very safe and accessible. Whilst one is walking beside the main road there is good separation from the traffic, and whilst some of the pavements are shared between pedestrians and cyclists we did not find this to be a problem.

18 Mar 2022As per my reply to another review, it's a route I've walked and cycled many many times. It's definitely not a pretty route, and next/near to busy roads the whole way but if you are trying to walk from Southampton to anywhere in the New Forest then this is certainly the most direct route avoiding Ferries.

28 Apr 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)Most direct route, but I wouldn't like to walk this way, as though you are not directly on the side of the A35 you are walking parallel to it along main cycle route and through industrial sites. Main car and cycle network out of Southampton, so not really walker friendly or enjoyable.
