Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

05 Dec 2024I walked this route from rooting to Streatham
Turn right out of Tooting Broadway station, immediately onto a busy Mitcham Road, lined both sides with eateries, hairdressers and barbers.
Luckily, you’re soon into quiet residential side roads.
So let me digress here to discuss barbers. The proliferation of barbers in recent years is quite a surprise to me. I may not understand every latest fashion, but I do understand economics, and how they all operate remain a mystery. The advantage of A Slow Ways walk is that it allows you to ponder such great world issues for as long as you want! I did and still didn’t arrive at an answer.
Before too long, you arrive at Tooting Bec Common, a welcome green space to walk-through. I walked it after a heavy rain storm, and luckily the routes are well tarmaced.
As you proceed, it’s not difficult to maximise your time in greenery by choosing one side of the road versus the other, sometimes counter to the official Slow Ways route; but you can always have it in sight.
It doesn’t take long to arrive at Streatham Station and overall, it’s a very easy pleasant walk.

07 Oct 2024I walked this on a slightly cloudy, but warm afternoon from Streatham to Tooting.
After a short busy section in Streatham (photo #1, #2), the route deviates from the shortest, and instead has a lovely meander along and through the commons (photo #3, #4, #5). Once you're out of that, there is a fairly pleasant section through residential areas, with not a lot of traffic (photo #6). Tooting's High Street is a hub of activity of course. The finish is at the tube station (photo #7)
.
Lovely route.

06 Jun 2022Once away from the traffic and noise of Streatham High Road, this route becomes quite green and pleasant. It crosses Tooting Bec and Tooting Commons before continuing along fairly quiet roads until it reaches the main road into Tooting.
