Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

18 Apr 2024April 2024. Direction: Llantrisant to Tonyrefail.
This is only a partial review, as there were several inaccessible parts and I gave up towards the end and just took the road route into Tonyrefail.
Firstly, the path from the road across the common starts out well enough with a track and a sign for the Penrhys Pilgrimage Way route, but it`s a dead end. The only way into the Llantrisant Business Park is on the main access road leading from Heol y Sarn. Even then there is no (legal) way out other than the same access road. The path past Pritchard`s factory has been closed (Formal closure notice on show at the north side of the Pritchard`s site). I tried an alternative, I tried the path leading off Pantybrad next to the Royal Mint and then alongside Nant Muchudd stream. This started out fine with a clearly defined path, but eventually ended up in thick undergrowth through the woods further upstream, with no easy way out. The same thing happened on the path leaving Heol Ddu after it crosses Nant Muchudd. There is a well signed track, but the path supposedly going straight on after the bridge to the right again just goes nowhere. I gave up at this point and just found my way to the lane leading to Tonyrefail.
There looks to be a better route following the Penrhys Pilgrimage Way all the way from Llantrisant to the edge of Tonyrefail (with hindsight, it looks like the sign on Llantrisant Common, mentioned above, had been turned around !). Tonlla2 has been added for this alternative.
