Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 Sep 2021The first mile or so out of Tod is pretty steep but OK, apart from the fact that the initial suggested route round the back of the Community College now seems to have disappeared. The views, looking back as you climb out of the Calder Valley, are fine but thereafter the route gets worse:
1. Frustratingly, it skirts the interesting local beauty spot and fine viewpoint of the Bridestones in favour of passing what looks like a fortifed farmhouse.
2. It then follows the 'Dukes Cut' which is long and boring, but worse it to yet to come...
3. It attempts to negotiate what can only be described as an agricultural and construction machinery scrapyard with no obvious path or (removed?) waymarking as you stumble through overgrown and marshy fields to find a way across Noah Dale.
Waymarking then does resume on the north side of Colden Water, and there is finally some further reassurance as you meet the Pennine Brldleway which heads over Heptonstall Moor, with good views over Gorple Reservoir to the north.
The final ignomy however is that the Packhorse Inn is now closed, and likely to remain so for the foreseeable future.
