Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

11 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)I walked it from Berkeley to Thornbury, and the first half of it is very familiar to me. Most of it is very pleasant, at least on a nice day and for people well-used to country rambling. Sufficient fitness is required to cope with stiles, some of which are quite challenging. Route finding requires either good map reading skills or a well programmed GPS (which I don't have). The short section through Roundhouse Wood is lacking in waymarks and potentially quite confusing. Near Rockhampton, about 200m SSW of Luce's Farm, there is a missing waymark at a hedge boundary followed by a cropped field which must be crossed diagonally and where the path has not been restored. Approaching Thornbury, the route beyond Lower Morton cannot be recommended except to one's worst enemy. After a succession of inadequate stiles a couple of fields are crossed which the farmer has clearly done his best to make as uninviting as possible without actually breaking the law. After crossing Oldbury Lane one is plunged into a lot of new housing development, much still under construction. I enclose photos of the unusual crenelated farmhouse at New Park Farm, part of Roundhouse wood in May, and a particularly unhelpful kissing gate near Rokhampton.

01 Nov 2023I know it was a while ago now but thanks for the useful review. I used it to help me reroute the walk into Thornbury (thober 2). The new route is not perfect (still some eccentric path infrastructure between Rockhampton and the edge of Thornbury) but is accessible and much better.
