Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

04 Sep 2024I really enjoyed this walk. The route along Whitchurch Down was really pleasant. I walked the route in good visibility and found no difficulty crossing Whitchurch Down to Merryvale. Where there is the Dartmoor Inn as a good refreshment stop. There is then a long walk along the busy B3357 and I agree with the observation from the previous reviewer that there are wide verges to step onto the moor. The roadside walking is about 2 miles between Merryvale and Rundlestone. The walk over North Hessary is straightforward.

18 Jun 2023I walked most of this route but deviated at the Tavistock end by going up Green Lane to reach the golf course (from Mount Tavy Road, north of this route). The part from Moortown to Merrivale can be hard to follow since it is open moorland and there are numerous tracks and no signs - so map-reading required! The ground is quite rough in this part and may also be boggy according to the season. The part from Merrivale follows the road which has quite a bit of traffic, but since the land is open it's easy to get out of the way onto the verge, and drivers can generally see you from far off. A recommended route - at least when I did it on a nice summer's day!.
