Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Apr 2024Direct? Certainly. Accessible? Mostly, but there's a couple of road crossings without decent places which to actually cross. Attractive? Absolutely not!!
A lengthy and not very exciting road stomp along often very busy roads and a long stretch of dual carriageway. Whilst it is paved, and the upwards gradient not too bad (although the climb from the Ribble to Preston station can be a bit steep, especially after a long walk), it isn't the most pleasant.
Any plusses? You're never far from shops or pubs!
Check out my alternatives: an urban route TarPre Two; and a countryside route, TarPre Three.

24 Apr 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)Awful route along busy major roads. Thanks to Beeching railway cuts, the bridge over the Douglas was removed, so walkers are stuck with the A59 as far as the toll bar roundabout. From there surely the old A59 through Much Hoole, Little Hoole, Walmer Bridge and Longton would be a better slow route, with a wee detour round the Brickcroft at Longton. There are also public footpaths from station road in hoole to the end of Marsh Lane in Longton. I'm 300 miles away so can't walk it.

30 Apr 2021I would agree that a detour through the villages mentioned above would be an improvement, certainly much better than walking beside the by-pass. I'm not 300 miles away so may do an alternative version. Lots of places for food and drink along the way.
