Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

24 Oct 2024I walked this from Nantwich. The canal section is pleasant and non challenging, although the section from Barbridge to Alphraham is alongside the main road and a bit noisy. Likewise the road section through Alpraham itself. The section from Alpraham across the fields is unloved (think stiles in various states of disrepair and a thicket of holly virtually blocking one stile completely) and poorly marked through the farm with the feisty cows (glad I didn’t have a dog). After negotiating the farm I had to take quite a long detour as the next field was completely blocked with head-high sweetcorn (no sign of a path). Overall, I did enjoy the day - but probably more because of the mini adventure involving 2 buses and 2 cafes. Would I walk it again - probably not.

13 Feb 2023A decent walk which I would actually give 3.5 star. Walked it in reverse, from Nantwich to Tarporley. The majority of the route along the Shropshire Union Canal is very good. Leaving the canal and heading through Alpraham is along a very busy road, and while there is a pavement, it is still noisy and unpleasant for while. Leaving the main road is lovely through fields with a route into Tarporley via quiet back lanes. Look out for cows in the field around Rookery Farm and poor public right of way signage around the farmyard itself. There is a regular bus service between the two towns which makes it easy to complete as a one-way walk.
