Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

30 Jan 2023 Winter

January 2023. Direction: Talbot Green to Peterston-super-Ely.

I walked this on a clear and bright day, but after a recent wet spell. Once away from the dual carriageway linking Talbot Green to the M4, it became a nice rural walk through lanes and fields. The route was well signed and the styles, gates and bridges were in good condition. Had a good stop off at the Dynevor Arms in Groes-faen, before walking the long lane between there almost the end point. The lane is wide enough to have white lines in the middle until just after crossing the bridge over the M4, where it narrows down to single track, but there was very little traffic around. The final 300-400 metres of the footpath leading down into Peterston-super-Ely, became a small stream, which I tried for a while, but turned back and opted for the alternative "Valeways" route to the left, which comes out at the Three Horseshoes pub. Boots would have been OK to go the stream route, but I didn`t fancy my chances in walking shoes. The only other wet area was after crossing the footbridge over the stream on the path leaving the road after the cemetery just outside Talbot Green, some strategically placed logs and stones, already in place, saved the day though. Sorry, no photos for this walk.
