Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Thanks a lot for this route - I didn't know Russel's Path, and now we walk it every week, and use it if the trains are 'upside down' to walk back from Streatham to West Norwood. Really pleased to have this bit of local knowledge.

A fairly boring route that follows some main roads and then quieter residential streets. Passes good shops etc at Norwood. Not a better option than this route really, although you could take a pick of different residential streets should you wish.

I walked this route from West Dulwich to Streatham. Once I got off the south circular it was fairly quiet. Most of the route is along quiet suburban streets. At one point it crosses a high street with plenty of shops. It is quite hilly in places, although it may be less so if you are walking in the opposite direction. The last part of the route is along a footpath that runs between the backs of houses, and at the end by a railway line. It has street lighting but I'm not sure if I would feel comfortable walking alone here after dark. There are some steps at the station in Streatham but there are step free alternatives.

As for STRCRY and STRNOR this route starts with a flight of steps opposite Streatham Station - this can be avoided via Hopton and Madeira roads.

This route mostly makes use of alleyways and side streets but towards the end there is a lot of main road walking.

A quieter route would be to either
continue along Canterbury grove rather than turn off (involves steps) or
take Lansdowne hill from Royal circus then
cross Norwood road at bottom of Lnsdowne hill then take Chatsworth way, Idmiston road to Rosendale road and then Carson road -
this will avoid walking alongside the south circular and is only slightly longer - you will also pass closer to shops and cafes (there are limited facilities at West Dulwich).
