Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Have given this route 1* because there is a very difficult to navigate section that is overgrown and unmarked. We searched for the footpath using a GPS navigation map, but it was not evident. (This is at the top of Ivy thorn Hill going due south off the ridge) We eventually found a nearby little track through to connect with the main route again. Overall its a pleasant walk and mainly level apart from short very steep sections at Ivythorn Hill. There are stiles and one flight of steps. The central section is easily followed (one short section after Ivythorn diverges slightly off the OS footpath - it looks like been re-directed on a track running alongside the field- this makes it easier to follow in fact). We were able to take the bus back from Somerton to Street. I will post a new route when I work out how to do it that will avoid thew overgrown section.
We will inform the council and local Ramblers about the lost route.

A good route from Street to Somerton however on foot only due to a number of styles & a flight of steps. It’s mostly off road with a nice section over the levels then through Compton Dundon and then through fields to Somerton.
One section from Street Hill down to Ivythorn Manor will need to be re-routed. The footpath isn’t signed and is completely overgrown so impossible to navigate. There is also a broken style where a garden fence has been put up barring the way.
An easy alternative to avoid this section which will be posted ASAP.
