Description
This route uses Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in residential areas plus paths alongside and through local cemeteries/Wanstead flats, with the exception of the need to use the A118 route to cross the River Roding for a few minutes at the Ilford end.
It follows the route of the Stratford to Ilford railway, so Forest Gate and Manor Park Stations are on route. Manor Park Cemetery and Crematorium opening times can be found here https://www.mpark.co.uk/ . If it is closed an easy green diversion round its northern edge is via Whitta Road, Capel Road and Ridley Road, which adds about 1/4 mile to the route

12 Nov 2023Walked this route during the day from Stratford. A pleasant route wandering through quiet residential streets, past a few train stops in between, and some green space. 4 stars more for the practicality of the route rather than the scenery!
Note that parts of the walk will likely not be accessible after sunset/before sunrise or might not feel the safest if there isn't anyone around - e.g. the cemetery, which is only open during certain hours and the bit between the fences near Ilford station.

12 Nov 2023A safe and direct Slow Way. Good use of offroad options. Lots of residential areas so a bit dull compared to nearby Slow Ways in part, but varied enough to make up for it.

12 Nov 2023 (edited 13 Nov 2023)Walked from Stratford to Ilford. A good solid SlowWays route, easy to follow throughout. There is one section that can get muddy, and the cemetery may be locked at night.
From Stratford station, we cross Great Eastern Road and follow it round to the junction with the Grove, where we turn left then right along Manbey Grove. We carry on going as straight as possible through residential streets as far as Woodgrange Road, where we turn left and cross the railway at Forest Gate station, where we cross the road, continue and turn right into Sebert Road, which leads us into the Manor Park cemetery, which is full of interesting monumental masonry.
We pass the church on its south side and continue along the main cemetery road, then follow Whitta Road out to Manor Park station. From here the route follows Forest View Road, but one can also take a parallel line on a path alongside the road through Wanstead Flats. After crossing Aldersbrook Road our path is narrow and a little muddy, and constrained by fences on both sides. Eventually we reach Aldersbrook, where we go left through an underpass under the railway and through an alleyway to reach Romford Road, from where a simple pavement walk over the Roding and under the North Circular Road takes us to the meeting point by Ilford station.

05 Feb 2023I walked from Ilford to Stratford.
From Ilford the route starts along a busy road, over the River Rodding (with heron) and under the North Circular but quickly turns off through housing and under the railway line. The path here runs between fences, the rail line and the cemetery, Narrow at foot level probably okay for a buggy but not a wider wheelchair. This part is not lit. A short walk along pavement (or 15m North on the common) to another cemetery, lots of interesting gravestones. More quiet suburban roads to Forest gate Station followed by a long straight interesting suburban road, again very quiet. This spills out onto a busy road past the University of East London to Stratford station.
This was a varied pleasant walk on a bright sunny day. A narrow unlit path and a locked cemetery makes this a daytime walk.

27 Mar 2022 (edited 28 Mar 2022)This is a good quality and direct route.
The first half mile from Stratford station is on busy commercial roads. For the next one and a half miles, the route is on mostly quiet residential streets, apart from short stretches or crossings of busier roads.
Next is the pleasant Manor Park Cemetery. The cemetery closes at 5pm in the summer and 3:30pm in the winter, necessitating a diversion of over half a mile around the north perimeter.
The next half mile or so is along quiet residential streets and along the south edge of the Manor Park section of Wanstead Flats.
Up to this point the whole route is on paved surfaces. The next section is nearly half a mile of unpaved footpath running outside the south boundary of the City of London Cemetery. I walked it on a fine day when it was a very nice stretch. In wet weather it has muddy patches and puddles. The surface is uneven in a few places.
I met no-one else on the footpath although it was a fine, late March Sunday afternoon. As the path runs between two high fences, some people might feel uncomfortable with the isolation of this section. My daughter told me that it occasionally has groups of men hanging around, and there are drugs paraphernalia. If preferred, this footpath can be avoided by crossing the road bridge over the railway and going straight down to Romford Road. This diversion which would also be good in bad weather for those without muddy-path footwear, and for non-rough terrain wheelchair users.
At the east end of the footpath, the route cuts down to the very busy A118 Romford Road, for the last half mile to Ilford station.
