Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

30 Sep 2023As noted in other reviews, the railway crossing near Wharncliffe side is blocked. Ended up having to walk quite a long way around. Stoshe route 3 seems to avoid this issue.

05 Sep 2023I agree with the previous reviewer - Sam. I walked this route in September 2023 and there are locked gates on either side of the railway crossing. you can (and I did) get around these with a bit of scrambling, but this is not appropriate for a Slowways route. Also once on the west side of the rail track it is not great just wasteland. Much better to stay on the cycle route on Plank Gate another mile or so and the go under the tunnel to cross the railway line. I do think though that otherwise this maked for a great route. I shall be submitting another option with just a couple of changes.

06 Sep 2023Fair comment - I probably should have routed that section better

06 Sep 2023No, I can see the confusion. According to the signage it should be possible to cross there, it is a designated crossing point and the signs tell you to shut the gate behind you. But they are well locked.

01 May 2022I walked this last weekend. Overall it was really nice, including a beautiful riverside section alongside Beeley Wood, and a lovely bit along Plank Gate.
Unfortunately part of the route where it left Plank Gate and crossed the railway line near Wharncliffe Side was inaccessible (the gate to the railway line was locked). Which meant I had to continue along Plank Gate and find an alternative way to Deepcar. If this is fixed then this route would be great.
