Description

This route is very similar to StoShe three, but makes four minor changes to make it easier to follow (and very slightly shorter):
(i) Changing the route just north of Oughtibridge Lane to use more of the TransPennine Trail, and avoid a section of road walking with no verges or pavements and a short section of path that is a bit rough and eroded and may be slippery when wet or icy. This has the minor disadvantage of staying a little further from any facilities in Oughtibridge, but I think it is better overall.
(ii) Plotting the lines through Great Hollins Wood and Beeley Wood to follow the paths on the ground rather than the right of way lines where these diverge slightly. In particular it should help southbound walkers identify the start of the path down to the railway bridge.
(iii) Providing a walkable route onto Kelham Island from the west (both the two and three routes use a route that doesn't quite work through a building and over a non-existent bridge).
(iv) Shortening the route into Sheffield station by using a more direct pelican crossing.

I hope that the net result will be a GPX file that walkers can follow more easily

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
