Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

ALAN MACMILLAN ORR

19 May 2025 Spring

This is stage 4 of the Trafalgar Way - Falmouth to London

We started well, albeit on country lanes without too much traffic, (5am) but there is a serious problem with this route, between tregonetta and Demelza... We followed the track for about 100m before it started becoming seriously overgrown, and looked like no one had been there for a very long time.

The gate was stuck and there was no signs of public footpath. Nonetheless, we continued through fields, and found our way out towards the farm track, where I did see a cornwall council sign with an arrow... but we came to a stop just before the farm as the path was closed by a locked gate with no way of passing, and the farm ahead had cows in it, so we had to turn around and do a long route round the ever fast roads, until we found farm tracks skirting round to demelza adding on another 1.5 miles...

Interestingly enough there was a public footpath sign leading back from demelza to where we had come from, but we didn't try it, due to the distance we had already covered

After Demelza we settled back into easier road walking on country lanes all the way to Lanivet Inn apart from a quick trip across a field on the Saints way.

As a day hike I would not recommend this walk, but as part of a long distance walk, it has potential as sometimes road walking is unavoidable.

In order for this to work the access must be guaranteed between Tregonetta and Demelza, and then and only then would I would recommend this as a slow ways route .

Tregonetta and Demelza.
