Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

12 Jun 2024This way wasn't quite on my long distance route, but I thought it was worth a detour of a couple of miles to visit a pub named after a cricket legend of my childhood (Kanhai) and I found the town also has Hirst Park, where Jack and Bobby Charlton learned to play football as boys.
The route is very simple on the road and no navigation is required, but the bridge and park at the Wansbeck are worth seeing.

29 Nov 2023I walked this on a crisp late November morning from Ashington to Stakeford. I was conscious of the traffic beside me all the way but there was plenty of interest. Elli's review is great so I don't need to add anything further. This was a pleasant walk.

10 Nov 2023A short leg from the Half Moon Inn at Stakeford to the Rohan Kanhai in Ashington town centre. Entirely on pavements alongside a moderately busy road but with a pleasant crossing of the River Wansbeck and the opportunity to divert into Wansbeck Riverside Park on the north bank. Pavements are narrow in parts but passable on foot or bike.
