24 Oct 2021From Eynsham, the first kilometre or so (to Swinford Bridge) is the same as the Eynsham to Oxford route. After that, Eynsham to Standlake joins the Thames path, crossing the river at Pinkhill lock. The next section is predominantly over farmland, with the final third of the route winding through gravel beds towards Standlake.
Consequently, sightings of waterbirds are likely. I would normally have picked out seeing a little egret on the Thames as the highlight of any walk, but on this occasion I saw a young wild boar.
Turning to the terrain, this route certainly isn't one for wheels - there are steps at various bridges and the path is frequently narrow and uneven.
Tricky turns - very few. About the only place for possible confusion is that the remarkably straight section between Pinkhill Lock and West End actually has two right-angle turns, about 100m east and west of SP432055. Not enough to register a new route, but worth noting. A similar situation occurs a little further south - the route implies that you head straight across the road at West End, when in fact you walk a little way along the road at SP428042.
