Description

The route follows a road for the first half of the walk. There are views of the River Tyne at the start, but these are obscured by industrial buildings for large parts closer to Tyne Dock. At Tyne Dock, the route joins an old disused railway line that takes it all the way to East Boldon

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I walked this route from South Shields on a fine but cool Spring day. The route as you leave the town centre may require some care as current building development means you may need to take some minor diversions. There is plenty to see from 19th Century pub buildings mixes with modern housing developments and run down industrial units. When you get to the entrance to Tyne Dock you take a left turn and head up following Boldon Lane. There are shops of all kinds along this street. You then turn down to find the beginning of the railway path which you follow all the way to the Station at East Boldon. This is an easy an straightforward walk.
