Description
Short and urban but immediately gets away from traffic in Southborough then keeps to quiet residential roads and parks (1 small, 1 mini, 1 large) until reaching Tunbridge Wells shopping area.
Northern part is also a quiet way from the Southborough Slow Ways point to the nearest train station at High Brooms. Tarmac underfoot throughout so good for winter and accessibility except that it is steep coming down Holmewood Road towards High Brooms. Please go the long way around the nearby roundabout on N Farms Road, traffic coming through the railway arch would not see pedestrians crossing until it hit them!
Created because the first review of the original SouRoy 1 route says Reynolds Lane (no pavement) can be very dangerous when there is traffic from the school. After walking another Slow Way into Southborough I had plenty of time to spare so tried this out

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 Jan 2025A quiet urban walk which did exactly what I hoped for it. There is a good view coming down to High Brooms and I enjoyed the stretch through Grovesnor & Hilbert Park. You could meander off the cycleway through there to add more interest (woodland, small wetland with boardwalk, formal pond). It has a cafe (had just closed) and a water dispenser (was broken/shut off due to freezing weather). Architecture didn't grab me until the former Opera House in Tunbridge Wells' shopping zone. There are a few more by T Wells Station including a small Sainsbury's, and the staff in Black Sheep Coffee kindly let me fill up my bottle.
Although not exciting in the context of the nearby non-urban Slow Ways it is easy to both follow and walk. More manicured than the alternative, SouRoy 1, but shorter and the same distance off-road too. (SouRoy 1 has a flag for unsafe road walking and a couple of mild mistakes, per the reviews.)
Good to know:
Tunbridge Wells is the hub for many bus routes covering a wide area (e.g. Brighton, Crawley, Maidstone) including Tenterden and several other Slow Ways points only reached by bus on public transport, and most use the train station bus stops. Frequencies seem good.
Photos came out in reverse order. Tarmac paths throughout but one particularly steep slope, good accessibility but I did notice one non drop kerb. Bizarrely across a fairly new cycleway.
