06 Jun 2023There's a long term development in the area adjoining Lampton Park which has closed the footpath used by this route. A number of high rise apartment blocks going up; path may be closed until late 2024.
I'm making alternative route option Souhou Two which will avoid the blocked footpath, and also uses the new pedestrian footbridge across the railway lines at Southall to give a quieter route at that end.
Flagged as a 'maybe' for now.

14 May 2023I walked this from Southall to Hounslow on a grey morning. There hadn't been a lot of rain in the last week.
Southall has a brand new station (photo #1), built for the Elizabeth Line, to replace the slightly dingy one just to the south. From here, I walked a short stretch along a few residential roads, although there was a nice cycle path (photo #2) along the road to the Grand Union Canal.
Instead of going through Wolf Fields Park, the route took me around it with fences on both side (photo #3). I don't know what. After a few more residential roads (photo #4, #5), I crossed under the M4 although the route's surroundings stayed the same. After crossing the A4 the route briefly goes through Lampton Park, where my planned route was blocked due to a new development. The detour *through* the park (photo #6, #7) was probably more pleasant though. As it seems like a temporary blockage, I don't think the route needs adjusting.

02 Feb 2023I walked from Hounslow to Southall.
This route surprised me as it is much nicer than expected from looking at the map.
A short roadside walk takes you to a wide well lit alleyway.
There are open gates at the North end of Lampton Park so an alternative would be to walk up through the park, but the path is not lit and potentially muddy.
Then suburban streets to the busy Heston Road, which takes you past Old Heston with beautiful church and Memorial, and under the M4. More leafy open suburban streets and another lit alley way to the busy Merrick Road. The path beside this busy road is off set and separated from the road by a narrow strip of trees and a fence so it is not unpleasant at all, quiet and well lit. The Route then goes over a road bridge past an extended Southall Station with the new Elizabeth Line into South Street, a busy colourful shopping street into the centre of Southall.
I did the correct thing of having a delicious curry before returning to the station to go home.
A flat varied walk, much less traffic than expected, free of stairs and barriers, suitable for wheels. Low planes at the Hounslow end. A good walk.
