Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

21 Feb 2024I walked the Hounslow to Southall route 2 on a mild February. I started at Hounslow, having arriving by another slow ways route. This is a pleasant urban route.
The earlier reviews are still accurate and I won’t repeat the detail. Thought the path around Lampton park (route 1) is now open again. Added photo of Lampton park map and church in Old Heston
The route goes past and through open spaces, parks and housing estates. So uses good footpaths through out and is away from main roads for most of the route, by taking residential streets.
I then caught the Elizabeth line train from Southall station.

This is imo a slightly pleasanter route than Souhou One (which at present is affected by a footpath closure at Lampton Park).
It is broadly on the same lines, but has a lot more green at Lampton Park, goes through Wolf Fields park instead of around it, and avoids some of the heavy traffic at Southall by using the new pedestrian footbridge over the railway (photo).
The flipside is that at present there is no lift access to the footbridge - I don’t know if any is planned for the future. So … many steps. And if you want to use Southall station (Elizabeth line) Souhou One will be better for access.
There are good refreshments at Heston - I’ve put in a photo of the pub which is on the route, there are also good non-pub refreshments a little off route at the Heston pools and fitness centre in Heston Park. (I tried out a route option through the park, but overall I think this one is a little more direct, and preferable in the section north of the M4).
All in all a good direct route between two lively communities in West London, which makes the most of local parks. Steps.
