17 Jun 2023As other reviewers have noted, this route is mostly off road, and the roads that it does follow are pretty quiet. As you'd expect for a route through the Cotswolds, it undulates, mostly running to the south of the Evenlode valley, so the views are excellent.
The flipside of the route's quiet nature means that there's no real opportunity for refreshment along the way, though since the route is only about 6 miles you don't have too long to wait.
One section of about 400 yards, along the footpath just to the east of Shipton station, was quite overgrown. I was able to push through, but if I'd been wearing shorts it might have been pretty scratchy. Secateurs would have been useful.
I wouldn't recommend this for anything wheeled - it wasn't muddy when I did it, but the other reviewers have noted this and I believe them - the dry soil I was walking on only needs a good soak.
I've also included a picture of the level crossing mentioned by the other reviewers.

22 Apr 2022I walk parts of this route weekly and it offers wonderful views across the Evenlode valley. Note that some parts can be muddy.

04 May 2021As currently mapped the stretch from Shipton to Ascott includes a very rural level crossing - take care! This section also gets extremely muddy in winter.
The walk from Ascott to Charlbury via Chilton and Shorthampton is a joy without even a stile in sight. There are a few very sharp inclines though and, again, it gets muddy when wet.

17 May 2023It looked like local traffic were not crossing the railway line by mid May so perhaps it’s less problematic with the mud by now?? Still pretty muddy after crossing the railway line though!
