Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

02 Apr 2024This route felt very road-heavy again, with times where you are walking on the road without there being a footpath. With that, I wouldn’t recommend the route if you have small children, or like me, you are struggling with blisters the size of cats and there doesn’t seem to many places to sit down for a while. In terms of scenery, the residential areas are very nice and the fields stretching on for miles are lovely at the time we were walking (and it wasn’t raining!).

02 Apr 2024A nice enough walk from Sherburn taking in A roads then into fields which was nice to see wildlife - hares and kites. Lots of fields before entering selby. Market on Saturdays.

02 Apr 2024Hambleton to crossing the trainline via Dam Lane is all concrete and the pedestrian footpath disappears after crossing the railway. Dam Lane is narrow so watch out for the cars!
Easy to get into Selby and the Cathedral can be seen. There is a market there on Saturdays. Plenty of shops and places to eat/grab a coffee in Selby.

28 Mar 2024This route has access and safety issues.
The first half of the route out of Sherburn in Elmet is complicated and problematic around rail lines and access. A better route would use Common Lane to the south to get to Hambleton village.
After Hambleton, there is considerable road walking along the A63, a fast busy road, with a need to cross the road on a couple of occasions, with no safe crossings. I would hesitate doing this portion of the route with children.
After leaving the village of Thorpe Willoughby to join the public footpath to the north, the walk becomes more pleasant. This path crosses between fields before reaching a more accessible stretch as it approaches the outskirts of Selby.
Selby is a medium sized town with a range of shops and places to eat/drink. There is a small green area with seating near the river and a town park beyond the cathedral. There is a small market near the Cathedral on Saturdays. The cathedral is well worth a visit.

28 May 2021Please ignore my stars as I couldn't add this info without them. Network Rail have currently closed the level crossing across the N-S railway east of South Milford and so it cannot be used.
