02 Dec 2024I walked from Shepherds Bush to Kensington High Street.
First part of the walk is along Holland Park Avenue. It is quite a busy street made nicer by the wide foot paths and tree lined avenue.
No shortage of coffee shops on the way.
The initial part of Holland Walk is quite a noticeable uphill section. However, it is very doable though it may curtail conversation. It is a walk to enjoy so take your time. The Holland Park walk itself has plenty of street lights along the way so I assume it is very well lit on a dark evening.
The final stretch is down a quiet road just sat back a little bit from Kensington High Street. It is uneventful and peaceful enough, and keeps you away from the traffic for a little bit longer. It even goes alongside Kensington library, an amazing old building.
The picture shows a stretch of the Holland Walk.

02 Dec 2024Once you’re out of the traffic of Shepherds Bush Green, with buses and cars everywhere, you come into Holland Park Avenue. This is much quieter, and lined with lovely houses. There’s lots of interesting things to see, including a GR (King George V, so from between 1910-1936) postbox and a 1920/30s K3 phone box.
The pavement is very wide on the left-hand side heading back toward Central London, which makes for easy walking.
At the statue of Ukraine’s Saint Volodymyr you turn right up and walk a steep passage through the back of houses and gardens into Holland Park.
Turn left just before Kensington High Street and into Philimore Walk parallel to the High Street but with very little traffic. Some more interesting shops and restaurants. I sadly note that Bill Wyman’s Sticky Fingers is now a ramen place. I guess nothing sticks around forever.
Nice route with plenty of shops, cafés and places of interest.

15 Oct 2022This route is pretty good, but not perfect. The section that goes parallel along Kensington High Road isn't the *nicest*, but it's certainly a lot better than the congested Kensington High Road (from Sheken one). I also hadn't realised Holland Park was on a hill :-). Holland Park Avenue, albeit a bit busy with pedestrians, was a nicer walk than I had remembered.
