Description

You are treading in the footsteps of Mammoths. This route is predominantly along the beach between Sheringham & Cromer. It has none of the undulations of the Coastal Path, but is subject to tide. Best walked on a falling tide at least 2 hours after high water. There is good access from the beach at West Runton and East Runton. Do not clamber at the base of the cliffs. The fossils and bones are best found on the beach especially after a storm (NOT DURING A STORM). If you see or find anything significant, photograph it with a smart phone. The Coffee Kiosk just from the beach access at West Runton is a good place to inform about the find or alternatively the Cromer Museum. The end of this route at Cromer does go past Cromer No.1 Fish & Chips! A more direct route to Cromer Station can be seen on the other routes

A route which may be done in sections with an ample car park (charged) at West Runton. This is the best location for fossil & Mammoth hunting. There are several information boards near the Coffee Kiosk/Museum next to the Mammoth.

12 Jul 2024 Summer

A fantastic walk on the beach, it is 4 miles but may be longer if fossil and Mammoth bone hunting. There are some dog walking restrictions May to September but if you go up to the promenades for a short spell, it is complied with. The route leaves Sheringham Station and heads to the Prom.
There are steps/ramps down to the beach at several locations. Along the beach you cannot get lost. A Coffee Kiosk/Shop/Museum & Toilets are at West Runton. East Runton has good beach access. Cromer has all you would expect in a Seaside Town.
