Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

05 Jun 2022The first 1/3 of the route (up to Stillington) is absolutely great and we’ll probably do that again, especially up to Thorpe Thewles. After Stillington we have a few farmers who have decided that public footpaths don’t need to be maintained and can be ploughed and planted over. Whitton Three Gates (as marked on OS maps, Anderson JP on Google) have farmed over with corn which is easy enough to just walk through. After that the route has us going through fields which are not marked as public footpaths on OS maps but on aerial view does looks like a path. It was possibly previously there, or a tractor track, but it has since been planted with 4 foot high rapeseed. This caused a nightmare to get through. My partner got rapeseed burns on his legs from the plant. Once through there though it was a case of following field boundaries with locket mown paths and with stiles until we hit the water plant and crossed the a689 into Sedgefield.
