Description
Very similar to Sawyax Two. Better use of Cycle paths to avoid roadside walking next to cars. Change of route west of Yaxley to reflect new road layout and take a quieter back road. Also more accurately mapped.
Shops, pub, and cafe in Sawtry.
From Sawtry there are many open tracks across farmland and paths beside fields. Paths also across fields which are clear in most cases but less clear in others, one recently harrowed and two with faint paths seen better in real life than on the pictures. Foot paths arrows (yellow on green) and footbridges show the way. Different seasons will change crops and appearances
Shops, pubs, and cafes in Stilton.
Mostly cycle paths and roadside walking from Stilton to Yaxley. To the West of Yaxley there is a new road layout and new roads. None of my mapping apps had caught up with this, Google was almost accurate. I've mapped this as best I can, there are clear signal controlled crossing points.

01 Sep 2024I walked from Sawtry to Yaxley.
I've given 4 stars, but perhaps a little less. Sawtry to Stilton is stunning open fields, 4.5 star, but Stilton to Yaxley is mostly tarmac, 3.3 stars.
A road out of Sawtry to a small industrial estate then across wide open fields, big skies, far horizons. The A1(M) is noisy, but nowhere on this route over flat landscape will you be completely out of earshot. Glatton is picturesque. Leaving Glatton there is a hill ! Out across fields, a mix of oats and beans. One field had been harrowed but the footbridge was visible across the other side. One path was feint but just visible, others were visible for ages, snaking across the fields into the distance, beautiful. The path turns to a track turns to a road leading through Stilton, dead straight. Ali's coffee box was a good choice to stop for, yes, it had to be, a stilton cheese panini, nom nom.
Crossing points over the A1(M) are limited so instead of heading NE to Yaxley you have to continue North.
The road through Stilton goes to a busy junction, avoided by a cycle path which turns along side the A15 with new housing being built. Turning into Yaxley a new junction, new road, new housing, not on the maps yet (Aug 24) but with clear traffic light pedestrian crossing points. More pavements into Yaxley.
A mixed walk of two halves, but I enjoyed it.
