Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 May 2023Ventured by bus up to Pontycwmer and ventured down in the gorgeous warm sunshine. The route from Pontycwmer to Bryngarw is straight forward - follow the railway line! However as I reached Bryngarw I struggled to find the right of way to continue into Brynmenyn. I wasn't overly bothered as the highlight of the walk was visiting Bryngarw park, the coffee shop and wonderful grounds.
As I struggled to find the right of way to continue into Brynmenyn, I wouldn't walk this route again and have created an alternative route (same distance) that includes a venture around Bryngarw park,.

22 Jan 2023This is a shared community route between Sarn and Blaengarw. There are toilets at Bryngarw Park and Pontycymer Life Centre. The whole path is suitable for buggies, wheelchairs but it becomes narrow for about 1km north & south of Llangeinor. Something to bear in mind if there are cyclists out. Very popular with dog walkers. Great scenery and a very gentle gradient. It runs alongside the Garw river and the track of the Garw Valley Railway (currently being restored by volunteers). At Pontycymer & Blaengarw the restoration of the old collieries into lakes and park is beautiful. For refreshments there's a cafe in Bryngarw Park (2km from Sarn) and The Charter (near the lakes at Blaengarw). Also shops and cafes in Pontycymer's Oxford Street. Bus services to/from Bridgend: 72 (Pontycymer) and 74 (Sarn). Free car parking in Sarn at Ynysawdre Swimming Pool and in Pontycymer at the Life Centre or Blaengarw at Parc Calon Lan. Paid car parking at Bryngarw Park.
