Safhav three

This replaces SafHav 2 because there were several problems between Camps End and Castle Camps. The alternative footpaths, passing All Saints Church instead, are more regularly used. There are also small changes in both end towns which should be a little simpler, greener and/or more scenic including the castle ruins in Saffron Walden. There are also mediaeval remains near All Saints Church too, perhaps there is a good view.

There are a few Mon-Sat bus services between S Walden and Haverhill and one, the 319, also goes through C Camps and Ashdon. Both villages have pubs and Ashdon also has a village shop or you can get refreshments at Beeches Nursery (worth a visit). Frustratingly for public transport users the village museum in Ashdon is only open on Sundays.

SafHav 2 had in turn replaced the original SafHav 1 as someone with local knowledge explained the road between Nosterfield and Burton End, outside Haverhill, isn't safe for pedestrians. The replacement for that and the other parts of SafHav 2 which overlap with this route were successfully tested in August 2024, but I wasn't able to retest the new section, it wouldn't be right to give a verification review when an important part of the test is missing.

Just FYI, as I can't leave a review, keep an eye out for grey partridge on this walk. I flushed at least four separate groups but sadly wasn't moving slowly or stealthily enough to get a good look. There are also often deer in the field at ///positive.logic.organisms and behind a hedge at ///encourage.toggle.fired is a large and loud dog which barks as you pass
