31 May 2023Very nice walk from seafront to city centre. crossing at Winston Churchill roundabout is wrong, you have to walk further along the road to a pedestrian crossing.

18 Feb 2023We picked up the suggested Ryde to Portsmouth route at the Southsea Hovercraft Terminal. There are public toilets here, which are always a bonus on a walk!
The path alongside Southsea Common was partially blocked due to the ongoing Coastal Defence works site, but there is a pavement alongside (see photograph 3) so this isn't an issue.
The rest of the route was very easy to follow until the proposed crossing point at Winston Churchill Avenue (see photograph 8). The road has railings between the two carriage ways at this point, so, as a pedestrian one would need to continue slightly further along the road passed the roundabout and use the pelican crossing there.

29 Dec 2021For a short urban route, this has a wide range of architectural styles - tower blocks for student accommodation, and residential housing from the Georgian period to the present. This is followed by Southsea common and a view over the Solent, and then a hovercraft ride to - well, Ryde.

29 Dec 2021I should have added - one minor error in the route (too small to upload a new one) is that there is no crossing of Winston Churchill Avenue at the top of St James' Road. There is a pedestrian crossing slightly to the west, at Middle Street.
