Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

26 Jun 2021Note: suggested route at Plas Hafod Hotel (above Hendy and Hafod roads Mold) goes through PRIVATE GROUND-NO PUBLIC PATH. Use RUTMOL 1 instead - path further north.

24 Jun 2021Supplementary minor comments to walk review by PaulGo (from 15 May 2021) :-
1) In Mold, on Pwll Glas Rd, keep looking left for footpath sign .. easily missed!
2) Farm land after leaving Mold through tall kissing gate looks as if its will be very wet and muddy in Winter months.
3) On Hendy Lane, note when passing renovated cottage on Left, as path to take is immediately behind cottage, next to recessed farm gate.
4) Just off Cadole-Gweraffield road, passed Deborah’s Well – marked path post has faint writing, take right (for Loggerheads - other sign says straight for Cadole) .. immediately after which path is very rocky underfoot and tree roots, maybe for 30-40Mtrs, coukld be slip hazard in wet / Winter.
5) Heading down to Loggerheads, from top of escarpment, option to take the Left where path forks down rocky thin path which has steep drop to right, passable with care down face of escarpment, but extra caution or avoid if wet Alternative is take path straight on for longer way down using safer steps.
6) At Loggerheads, pass through watermill behind buildings in Loggerheads and walk up road and then take wooden steps up to top car park. Its roadway walking then for ~400-500Mtrs
7) Llanbedr DC has some picnic benches / tables in centre of village if need break.
8) Last mile into Ruthin, field ploughed with deep ruts and attempt poorly to re-create the path. The final 5Mtrs towards style, before entry to Ruthin School grounds, was unmade and very rough / rutted – Need fixing!!!
Facilities in Ruthin good, so last mile didn't really spoil a very enjoyable ~4+ hour walk, with some great views and wildlife to see.

15 May 2021This route works with a couple of small modifications shown below, it includes quite a lot of obstacles making it non navigable on wheels., and you need to be fit enough to hop over plenty of stiles. There are some spectacular views along the way, and a couple of stopping off points, notably Loggerheads Country Park. On leaving Mold you'll encounter a wet field, that usually has cows grazing - you need to stick to the right hand edge of the field to find the stile and avoid wet ground. The climb up towards Loggerheads is quite steep in places but not too hard. Most surfaces are good. When you reach Plas Hafod you'll need to divertr right along the road then take the next footpath top the left. A slightly revised route has been uploaded taking in this change a few other small tweaks to avoid a few barriers and include the walk past facilities in Loggerheads (cafe and loos). Views from the top at Bwlch Pen Barras make it well worthwhile. The walk down to Ruthin is easy and has great views if the weather is fine. There is a pub at Llanbedr that is also a community hub and Ruthin is an attractive small town with good facilities and bus routes to Wrexham, Denbigh (and onward to the coast) and Mold.
