Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

30 May 2021 (edited 02 Dec 2023)Not the most direct offroad route. No shops and only one pub en route. A section which loses the footpath altogether (a new housing estate has diverted the footpath but the OS Map is not up to date with this). And most critically, sections where stiles are in such poor repair as to actually be dangerous (reported to Staffordshire County Council). The penultimate section of the walk involves roughly a mile of road walking along the busy A513. A section that could be avoided if the route went via Armitage instead of Hill Ridware and Pipe Ridware. There is potential for a Slow Way by this route, there is some lovely walking, but this one is not it. Were it not for the dangerous stiles (all featured on the "Way for the Millennium" walk) I would submit a new version with the section in Hill Ridware corrected. Instead I shall submit a new, more direct, better serviced version of Rugkin via the Trent and Mersey Canal to be walked soon.
